Brown rice VS White rice

Updated: Feb 28, 2022

"I enjoy eating brown rice, but I heard that white rice could be beneficial too. I wonder which to include in my diet?"

All rice consists of entirely of carbs, with small amounts of protein and no fat.

Brown rice is a whole grain (Meaning it contains all parts of the grain). This includes the fibrous, bran, the nutritious germ, and carb-rich endosperm. Whilst white rice, on the other hand, has the bran and germ removed, which are the most nutritious parts of the grain.

Brown rice is higher in Fiber, Vitamins, and minerals.

Brown rice is high in magnesium and fiber, both of which help control blood sugar levels. Research has found that regularly eating whole grains, like brown rice, helps lower blood sugar levels and decreases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

So should I eat more brown rice?

Brown rice is the obvious go to in terms of high nutritional quality and health benefits.

But with that said, brown and white rice can both be part of a healthy diet and there is nothing wrong with some white rice every now and then. The key here is to find the right balance and the type of nutrient needed more for your body.
